There are petty moves, and then there’s dumping 80,000 pennies into your ex-wife’s yard. It happened when Avery Sanford turned 18 and her estranged father showed up at the Virginia home of Avery and her mother, telling them it was his final child support payment as he dumped the load onto the lawn. It’s enough to make anyone mad.
Not Avery, though. She and her family picked all 80k pennies out of the grass, and she’s donating the entire $800 to Safe Harbor, a domestic abuse center, saying it’s not just her mom he was embarrassing, but “also me and my sister.” She says donating it to moms and children in need “really turns this situation into a positive. You can learn from it.”
One person that may have learned something is her father. He told the press he had acted out of 18 years of pent-up frustration and “the last thing he wanted to do” was push his daughter further away. At the very least, he provided a great example of how someone can take a petty move and turn it into a positive, no matter what the intention was.
