I live in a duplex with a great backyard…except for the fence that splits the line between my yard…and my neighbor. They have a lovely deck…but they’ve pushed the table right up against the chain link portion so they can totally see everything in our yard. The quiet space I used to enjoy after work? I now hate going into the garden…because they just sit there…basically watching everything we do. It sucks and I don’t know what to do. I hate feeling like I can’t use my own backyard without being so seen.
Michael’s Tips:
Kaitlyn is not alone. A lot of us have privacy concerns. Here are a few solutions that may help:
- Placing privacy chain link slats or screens will help create privacy the height of the fence, while they may see you walking, they shouldn’t be able to see you sitting or lounging.
- Another idea is to use long rectangular containers and plant tall plants and trees inside. This will help block the view of site and soften the look from the hard chain link fence. Or you could use tall faux hedges against the fence.
- You can also find bamboo fencing rolls at most big box hardware stores. They come in varies height and can attached directly to the chain link with wire, zip ties…
- There are some beautiful freestanding modular metal laser cut screens that could be used to create some privacy while add some visual interest too.
- Become friends. Grab a bottle of wine and talk to them. The more you get to know each other the more likely you are to respect each other’s privacy even more.
