The personal possessions of one of America’s most notorious gangsters will be auctioned off.

Al Capone’s three living granddaughters, who are all in their seventies, have decided to sell the family estate because they say they’re getting older. Granddaughter Diane Capone says she doesn’t want the family heirlooms to be left to people who don’t know the stories behind them. Items up for auction have been in the family for almost 90 years, including Capone’s favorite gun, family photos, a home movie of Capone and his associates, plus a prison letter he wrote his son, Sonny Capone, while in Alcatraz. The auction will be hosted by Witherell’s Auction House at the Sutter Club on October 8th.
