Barbie has been around since 1959 and her career spans more than 60 years. During that time, she’s had more than 200 professions, including astronaut, pilot, soccer player, firefighter and political candidate. The new Career of the Year Barbie is out and this year? She’s a music producer.
The music producer Barbie doll:
- Has long hair that comes in your choice of pink, blue, purple or orange
- Wears a graphic tee, jeans, an iridescent crop jacket and platform boots
- And she comes with a sound mixing board, a computer and headphones so she can get the music going.
Mattel, the toy company that makes Barbie, explains this doll is “designed to introduce girls to an underrepresented career where women make up less than 3% of music producers and shine a light on the importance of women’s stake in the industry.” Mini music fans will have fun trying the job out and maybe it’ll even spark a passion for a future career. And unlike some of the pricier Barbie dolls that can cost as much as $75 or $100, the music producer Barbie is only $14.99.
