It’s always nice to know people are looking out for you, and for one woman, that includes her local bookstore.
Kara Rolfe recently revealed that she got a surprising wellness check from her local bookstore after ordering two books with rather dark subject matter. The 24-year-old from Massachusetts recently ordered Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy’s new memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” in which she opens up about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother, as well as writer/actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Fleabag: The Scriptures,” which, in addition to scripts and notes from her Amazon series, also has her writing about heartache and loss.
Well, the combination of the two books set off an alarm at the Porter Square Books store, which prompted them to check on her. In confirming her order ,21-year-old employee Morgan Holly wrote, “I would say happy reading, but these titles indicate otherwise… hope you’re doing ok! Best, Morgan,” adding, “P.S. The Fleabag Scriptures is my most prized possession, hope you enjoy!”
Holly tells the “Boston Globe” that being familiar with the books’ content, she got a little concerned. “I saw the two books together, and I was like, ‘I’m just gonna write a little note to make sure this person is doing okay,” she says. “Or just like a little sincere, little aside, that someone’s thinking about them and that I hope she’s doing okay.”
- After Rofe shared the note with folks on Twitter it quickly went viral, being shared more than 3,400 times and liked over 100,000.
- “‘What an awesome thing for them to do!,” one person commented. “I’d probably burst into tears if I were low and some random person felt I was worth checking on,” one user wrote.
- Another joked, “I don’t recall ever getting a personal message from Jeff Bezos.”
