Over time, etiquette rules change and lately that’s true of weddings.
Here are some rules that are okay to shelve:
- Brides wearing white. The tradition is said to have started when Queen Victoria wore a white dress in 1840. Now, you can wear whatever color you want.
- The wedding party should be divided up by gender
- Guests shouldn’t wear black. White is still off the table, though
- The bride’s family should pay for the wedding. Half of couples pay for it themselves now
- The bouquet and/or garter toss
- Guests should stay until the newlyweds leave the reception
