New York City officials have identified two victims from the 9/11 attacks just ahead of today’s 22nd anniversary.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the city’s Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Jason Graham say the man and woman are the 1,648th and 1,649th persons to be identified, and the first new ID’s since 2021. Officials say the man and woman, whose names are being withheld at the request of their families, were identified using advanced DNA testing of remains recovered from the attack that took the lives of 2,753 people.
Some 40-percent of those who died remain unidentified. Mayor Adams hopes it brings a measure of comfort to the families of the victims, and attests to the city’s unwavering commitment to reunite all the World Trade Center victims with their loved one.
Additionally, to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T) has gifted mortgage-free homes to 22 American heroes and their families.
The recipients include:
- 11 first responders who lost their lives to 9/11-related illnesses
- Five first responders who died from COVID they contracted in the line of duty
- Four first responders who were killed in the line of duty
- One severely injured first responder
- One severely injured military veteran
T2T chairman and CEO Frank Siller, who started the organization to honor his brother FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller and other first responders like him who died on 9/11, says the organization has vowed to “Never Forget” those who “face down any danger to keep us safe.”
