Emaza Gibson was excited when Jason Derulo offered her a record deal. Her dream offer had finally come after years of hard work and dedication.
The artist says the deal with Derulo, had strings and struggles she’d never experienced before. She says she dealt with his aggressive behavior, unwanted invitations, and implications of having to have sex to advance. She ultimately feared for her safety.
“I’m at this point in my life right now, it’s very heartbreaking,” Gibson said in an interview Wednesday with NBC News. “I have anxiety; I’m traumatized. I’ve dealt with inhumane work situations. … I’m at this point where I’m back to zero and I have nothing.”
Gibson filed a lawsuit in LA County Superior Court on Thursday (October 5). She claims that Derulo turned cold after she rejected his advances and invitations to dine and drink, and eventually dropped her deal altogether.
Jason Derulo has responded, denying the sexual harassment claims.
