Let’s all say it together: “‘No’ is a complete sentence.”
Having clear boundaries for your life are important everyday, but for the holidays…it could make or break celebrations. Here are some boundaries to put in place before your holidays really start to kick in.
- Time you’re expected to spend with others. Decline invites as you need to.
- The number of family events you’re attending.
- Financial and gifting limits. These include spending limits, boundaries around who you are buying for, like doing a white elephant instead of gifts for the whole family or friend group. Plus a decision not to exchange gifts at all.
- Physical space and closeness.
- Comments about your body or the amount of food you’re eating.
- Topics like politics and religion.
- Topics regarding parenting styles, kids and relationship status.
