An evocative image of John Mayer‘s guitar and amplifier, seen sitting next to a folding chair on a mountain overlooking the LA skyline, will now raise money for LA wildfire relief.
The picture was taken by famed photographer Danny Clinch when he directed John’s 2008 concert film Where the Light Is, which captured shows John did in LA in 2007. A week ago, Clinch posted the photo on Instagram and wrote, “Heartbroken for Los Angeles. Stay safe and informed . I’m speechless.”
On Jan. 20, Clinch returned to Instagram, posting a snap of both John and himself holding copies of the photo. “After I posted this image of John Mayer’s guitar and amplifier overlooking the Los Angeles skyline while we were filming Where the Light Is, several people responded saying that they would purchase this image if I were to offer it as a fundraiser for the LA community,” he wrote.
“I shared these comments with John Mayer, and we decided to partner on a print sale to benefit the charity [Community Organized Relief Effort] and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena to help generate as many funds as possible for those in need,” he continued, adding, “Thank you for your generosity and positivity – Music is Medicine.”
Three versions of the print are available at transparentclinchgallery.com. One, signed by Clinch, costs $200. One signed by Clinch and Mayer, featuring an inscription by John saying “Keep me where the light is,” costs $500; a larger version costs $3,000.
