A photographer has captured an image that’s touching the hearts of parents around the world. According to the head of the U.N. Refugee Agency, more than 1.5-million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion started, and many of them are women and children. And a now-viral photo shows that mothers in Poland are stepping in to help.

Francesco Malavolta snapped the shot of a line of fully-equipped strollers at a train station in Poland, just a few miles from the Ukrainian border.

  • The photographer shares that the strollers were placed there by Polish moms to help moms fleeing Ukraine with their children.
  • He also tweeted a photo he took at the border between Slovakia and Ukraine showing empty strollers and baby car seats lined up for parents escaping the war.
  • In addition to the strollers, tents and boxes full of donated supplies including diapers, snow suits and baby food are waiting for moms and babies when they arrive at several Polish border towns.

“The thing that struck me before taking the photo was the absence of people around while two meters away there were miles of people. It seemed surreal,” Malavolta says. “I thought of them both, about the solidarity of those who brought the strollers and the dramatic stories of mothers fleeing the war.”
