The film adaptation of the 2018 fiction novel Where the Crawdads Sing hits theaters this Friday (July 15). It’s been talked about for years after becoming one of the best-selling books of all time.
2018: Reese Witherspoon selected the book, one month after it came out, for her Hello Sunshine Book Club in September and for Barnes & Noble’s Best Books.
2019: Where the Crawdads Sing had sold 4.5 million+ copies and sold more print copies in 2019 than any other adult title. It topped the list on Amazon.com’s of Most Sold Books in fiction and The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers.
2020: The book hit #1 on The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers.
2022: The book had spent 150+ weeks on the best seller list and had sold 12 million copies, making it one of the best-selling books of all time.
July 2022: Delia Owens, the author of the book, “Where the Crawdads Sing,” is wanted by police in Zambia for questioning in a murder.
Zambia police want to speak with her about the execution-style murder of a man in 1996 who was the subject of an ABC documentary.
Authorities wanted to speak with Delia after a piece was written in The Atlantic. According to the story, the editor of the piece believes Delia’s husband Mark may have been the person that murdered the man.
July 15, 2022: Where the Crawdads Sing, the film adaptation produced by Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine, hits theaters. (At least as of today.)
