When you meet someone and find yourself falling for them, it’s one of the best feelings in the world. Once you realize you’re in love with them, how long should you wait to tell them how you feel? Saying “I love you” is a big deal in a relationship and new research reveals how long it takes most people to say it.

A survey asked 2-thousand adults when they tend to say those three little words and some of them aren’t wasting any time. One in 10 admit they’ve said “I love you” within three weeks of a new relationship, but the majority of folks (26%) wait three to four months. It takes some people much longer, as 9% wait seven to eight months and 6% don’t say “I love you” until they’ve been with someone for 11 to 12 months.

Another relationship milestone is becoming an official couple and the majority of respondents (27%) take one to two months to make that declaration to family and friends. Some eager lovebirds share that news after one to three weeks (10%), many others wait until three or four months (25%) and a few hold off until 11 to 12 months (5%). And when it comes to the ultimate declaration of love – proposing – 40% would wait one to two years, while 22% would hold off for three to four years, but 15% would pop the question after seven to 11 months.
