No. 1 Nebraska volleyball’s recent run of dominance continued as the Cornhuskers notched their sixth straight sweep, this time over Washington 25-14, 25-18, 25-16, Friday at John Cook Arena. Nebraska has won 19 straight sets dating back to the fifth set against Creighton on Sept. 16.
The Huskers (15-0, 5-0 B1G) were led by Harper Murray, who had 12 kills and seven digs while hitting .407. Andi Jackson added 10 kills while hitting .562. Rebekah Allick tallied seven kills and a team-leading eight blocks. Bergen Reilly had 34 set assists for Nebraska. The Huskers outhit the Huskies, .307-.147, outblocked them 10-5 and outserved them, six aces to two.
Nebraska never trailed in any of the three sets. Washington tied the first set at one before the Huskers ran off four straight points to lead 5-1. A six-point run later in the set grew Nebraska’s lead to 13-4. The Huskers closed the set by winning six of the last eight rallies.
In the second set, Nebraska won the first three points. Washington won the next three to tie the set at three. But then the Huskers tallied the next three points to lead 6-3 and led the rest of the way. The Huskers clinched the set by winning five of the last six points.
Then in the third, Nebraska raced out to an 8-2 lead. The Huskies scored the next four points to cut the lead to 8-6, but the Huskers pulled away, finishing the match by winning seven of the last nine rallies.
Nebraska now prepares to take on No. 12 Purdue Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind. Pregame coverage begins at 11 a.m., with first serve at noon on KLIN and B-107.3.
