Sometimes being late has its advantages, just ask Elizabeth Johnson. The North Carolina woman was rushing to get her numbers in online for a Powerball drawing, but she missed the 9:57pm cutoff time by one minute. Lucky for her, the Quick Pick ticket was good for the drawing three days later.
And that’s when Johnson’s $3 ticket matched the numbers on all five white balls, winning her $1-million. That was doubled to $2-million when the 2X multiplier was drawn. Lottery officials say the odds of matching all five white balls are one in 11.6-million!
Johnson says the win was definitely a shock, especially since she wasn’t trying to play that night. After taxes, she’s taking home more than $1.4-million and she plans to use it to buy a house and go on vacation with her family. “The kids want to go to Disneyland,” she says. “We’ve never been and now we’ll get to.”
